You can pierce baby's ears as soon as 2 months. There is risk for infection. To prevent infection clean her piercing with the solution you will get. If you don't trust the piercing stations at the mall you can ask her doctor to do it. Most doctors will since it is easy and MUCH safer.

just generally speaking, i dont like babies with their ears pierced. i feel like people should wait until their daughter can decide for herself if thats what she wants. not to mention whats the use in causing unnecessary pain to a child simply for vanity? i dont like it

I would adivse to do it after 2 weeks. That way the baby has a few more shots. You have to let the immunization work first so don't go immedialty. If you get her ears pierced later there is a risk that she can pull or tug on the earring due to discomfort...so the earlier the better.

I'd wait until she asks. I think I had mine done for my 6th birthday. They ended up closing over because I was too young to look after them properly. Years later when I got them done again, I could still see the scar where they had been, too close to the bottom of my earlobe. Ear lobes seem to grow from the top (not scientific fact, of course, just what seemed to happen to mine!) I wouldn't like anything attached to my daughter that could be pulled out, so I'll wait until she's older.

Personally, I would never want to inflict pain on my daughter or put her in a situation of risk with infection unless it was absolutely necessary. And to me, while piercing may be cute to some, they are not necessary.

You would essentially be putting your daughter into a position where she has pain, and she's only 8 months old. Pain not just from the piercing, but pain from the aftercare as well. And if she then gets an infection, then you have another source of pain.

Consider waiting until she is old enough to understand the process, old enough to help you care for her ears, and old enough for her to really want them. It will be a wonderful event for the two of you when she is older.

I personally did not want to get my 3 girls' ears pierced when they were babies, but I know a lot of moms who did. Many I know had their baby girl's ear's pierced much younger than 8 months. My cousin has identical twin girls, now18 months old. She had their ears pierced at 2 weeks with different colored ear rings to help tell them apart. Before she had them done, she kept their hospital bracelets on them so they didn't get mixed up. There are no real health risks associated with piercing babies' ears, except those associated with infection if the holes are not cared for properly. Some of the babies with pierced ears that I am aware of are now grown up and never had any problems as far as I know. I have had several babies in my child care with pierced ears and a couple things we have to be careful with are not to catch the posts on their clothing or other kids' clothing and sometimes longer hair would get caught in them. Pretty much, though, no problems.

I think it's ridiculous to get a baby's or young child's ears pierced because who is the parent really doing it for? Themselves, not the kid. I think it should be left up to the kid when they are old enough to decide for themselves. That way it is a big deal for them. They are excited about it and can pick out their own earrings. It's also painful for the baby and why would you want to do that to your infant? You are doing it for yourself, not your daughter. But it's all up to you of course.

Congratulations to you.
